Iran: Viral and Fungal Diseases Spreading in Central Zahedan Prison

Viral and fungal diseases have been spreading in Central Zahedan prison and despite the authorities' negligence.

Many reports have been received by rights groups cited the serious outbreak of viral and fungal illnesses such as ringworm and tinea disease in the Wards 3, 5, 7 and 8 of the prison according to the news received by BCR group.

The patients who went to the prison clinic have been reportedly refused of treatment because of high cost of treatment as officials said.

At least 20 inmates suffer from contagious diseases at Ward three among young prisoners.

So far so bad, chickenpox disease outbreaks in several wards of the prison and the number of patients increases day by day.

At least four inmates have been allegedly infected at Ward three during last days.

Furthermore, the number of vermin as bedbug is rising over the prison and the prisoners have been faced serious troubles and they are endangered in the critical conditions.

On the other hand, the prisoners suffer from shortage of nutrition both quantity-quality and food diversity. At the beginning of Ramadan, the prisoners have had eggplant for their daily meals.

The young prisoner Abdul-Vahed Ghomshad Zehi died in the prison on 17 May 2015, he had been apparently perished in the negligence of officials.

Abdul-Vahed was beaten with a hard object during his interrogation in the Intelligence Division of Iran's National Police Force chambers where the goal of inquisition.
