Jafar Azimzadeh Continues Hunger Strike; Coma and Death Risk

Tehran, July 30, 2016: Jafar Azimzadeh's health deteriorated on the 64th day of hunger strike, eyewitnesses reported from Sina Hospital in Tehran. He contracted severe pain in his intestine and stomach with bleeding. "Azimzadeh would be in state of Coma and risk of death, at which point, he dies if he continues hunger strike," specialists expressed concern. Iran's Judiciary officials turn a blind eye over Azimzadeh's critical condition.

Jafar Azimzadeh, 50, was left unconscious for few hours due to the dire condition of hunger strike in Sina Hospital of Tehran in the Morning of Monday, June 27, 2016. He was transferred to hospital from the notorious Evin prison on the 51st day of his hunger strike on June 18, 2016."I will do nothing for Jafar Azimzadeh even if he dies", Tehran's prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi said after accepting to meet the wife of Jafar Azimzadeh.

In the following of Jafar Azimzadeh's hunger strike, five political activists, who are kept at Ward 8 of Evin prison, has started hunger strike in support of Azimzadeh on June 28, 2016. The activists, Arash Sadeghi, Ali (Amir) Amirgholi, Behnam Moosivand, Saeed Shirzad, Esmail Abdi, Rasoul Bodaghi, Mahmoud Beheshti Langroudi and Vahid Sayadi, started hunger strike to express solidarity with the imprisoned labor activist on June 28, 2016.

Azimzadeh started hunger strike since April 30, 2016, for his basic rights and is continuing it decisively, his relatives said. "I will not stop hunger strike till my nature rights to be met," he said despite his dire condition of hunger strike, whereupon, it left Azimzadeh unconscious for a few hours today. He's on the 64th day of hunger strike.

Regarding, Amnesty also released a statement expressing concern over Jafar Azimzadeh's dire condition. "Iranian trade unionist Jafar Azimzadeh, the Chair of the Free Union of Workers of Iran, lost consciousness on 27 June following a two-month-long hunger strike. He has been hospitalized since 18 June due to his deteriorating health, but is at risk of being returned to Tehran's Evin Prison, where his life may be at risk. He is a prisoner of conscience", AI said.

A Tweet Storm in an effort to release Iranian Worker Imprisoned Jafar Azimzadeh, begins. "We are having a Tweeter Storm in support Jafar Azimzadeh at 21:00, Tehran Time (at 18:30, Paris Time Zone) every day to release Jafar Azimzadeh", the Iranian civil rights activists ask activists and global villagers to join the movements with hashtag "#FreeAzimzadeh".

 

Therefore, Boroujerdi Civil Rights Group asks for "an end to this most extreme cruel treatment" for the brave worker rights activist Jafar Azimzadeh by writing immediately in Persian, English or your own language:
